It is still a big ask.
Even without the prize-giving dance, there is still the need to round up 52 volunteers for the shoreside events at Sullivans Bay and Scotts Landing.
To man the bar and burger production at Scotts Landing would optimally have required 36 regatta-goers to forsake a couple of hours each. The reality of course was that the crews worked mostly shorthanded, with some toiling from mid afternoon until midnight, not to mention several subsequent days spent cleaning up, recycling cans and bottles, and returning equipment.
Optimally, the shoreside events at Sullivans Bay would similarly involve a morning team and an after-lunch team, so that volunteers might also have time to enjoy the spectacle. It is in pursuit of this ideal that the following list of volunteers is published:
The afternoon before Friday 27 January, Scotts Landing
- 4 Small-marquee erectors

Back at Scotts: The 2006 regatta shoreside events were held at Scotts Landing, after a forecast for strong easterly winds made Sullivan Bay unviable for the prize-giving dance, which had been organised to launch the Mahurangi Action Plan. Although traditionally the picnic was held on the sheltered side of the harbour, this is the only time it has been held at Scotts Landing since Friends of the Mahurangi revived the regatta in 1977.
